She received a text on her phone saying that he had been evacuated from the mountains due to a medical emergency... In that moment her heart sank.

When a backcountry trip takes an unexpected turn, it can change everything - not just for the person on the mountain, but for those waiting at home. This is the story of what happened when a partner got sick in the backcountry and couldn't take care of himself, and how his partner felt completely helpless waiting for news from miles away.

Follow along as they share the experience from both perspectives - his struggle with being unable to care for himself and needing rescue, and her anxious wait for updates, not knowing what was happening or how to help. While he wasn't in immediate life-threatening danger, the experience of feeling vulnerable and helpless - on both sides - sparked something bigger. This story isn't just about one rescue; it's about how a difficult experience led two people to completely change their lives, join search and rescue, and find meaningful ways to give back to the outdoor community.
